In this post, we are going to explore the diverse fashion in todays Tokyo's streetwear. Tokyo is known as the fashion capital of Asia and has given rise to numerous worldwide businesses. Its vibrant fashion culture and street trends have greatly influenced the global fashion industry.

Now you probably have heard of this colorful bright fashion - one of the biggest street styles in Tokyo is "Harajuku fashion". Harajuku refers to the large neighborhood in Tokyo where you can find a captivating subculture movement including various types of looks and styles. Harajuku fashion can refer to any fashion style, it's more about a mix of different fashion styles and freedom of expression among young people.
Tokyo's street fashion is a mix of various subgroups and cant be described as one particular style so let's dig into some styles that are enduring for so long in the fashion capital of Japan.
Lolita
Influenced by Victorian styles from Rococo period. Known for the set of short/long sleeve of blouse and volume skirt that comes to the knees. A lot of ribbons and bows are seen with this dolly fashion style.
Gyaru
"Gyaru" is a Japanese word for the English word "gal". Influenced by high school uniform in Heisei era (1989-2019). Has similar style to Y2K style such as short skirts and loose socks.
Cosplay
As the capital city of anime country, cosplay fashion is one of the biggest styles that can be seen in Tokyo streets. Dressed up as a character from a movie, anime, show or video game.
Goth
Gothic style in Tokyo is pretty similar to gothic style in the United States but it's usually mixed with other subcultures such as Lolita and punks. Skirts such as a-shape volume skirts are more common than pants unlike US gothic style.
Tokyo is a large prefecture that is home to so many subdivisions of styles that coexist all throughout the different cities within Tokyo. Each individual style may be different from the next in looks and feel completely, but somehow all Tokyo street fashion is connected and share similar inspiration.
